How to use this

Preparing for a SAP PP interview

Interviewers for fresher and early-career roles test fundamentals and whether you have used the system. Understand each answer instead of memorising it, and be ready to describe how you would do the task in SAP. If you have not practised yet, say so honestly and explain what you have learned.

Questions

10 SAP PP questions with answers

  1. What is a bill of material?
A structured list of the components and quantities needed to make a product. A BOM can have several usages, such as production or sales.
  2. What are work centres and routings?
A work centre is where operations are performed, with capacity and cost data. A routing defines the sequence of operations, the work centres and the times needed to make a product.
  3. What are the MRP types?
Common MRP types are PD (MRP), VB (reorder point planning) and ND (no planning). The MRP type decides whether and how a material is planned.
  4. What are planning strategies?
Settings that define how the production of a material is planned, for example strategy 10 for make-to-stock using net requirements planning and strategy 40 for planning with final assembly.
  5. What is the difference between a planned order and a production order?
A planned order is a proposal created by MRP and can be changed or converted. A production order is a firm order to produce, which is released, confirmed and settled.
  6. Describe the production order lifecycle.
The order is created, released, goods are issued to it, operations are confirmed, finished goods are received, the order is technically completed (TECO), and costs are settled.
  7. What is a production version?
It links a BOM and routing, and is used to select which combination is used for production or costing.
  8. What is capacity planning?
Evaluating the load on work centres against available capacity, and levelling the load by moving or splitting operations.
  9. What are the production types?
Discrete manufacturing (production orders), repetitive manufacturing (run schedules over a period) and process manufacturing (process orders).
  10. What is MRP Live?
The MRP run in S/4HANA that executes on the HANA database and is much faster than the classic MRP run.
